Meet The Team

Eric Carlton – President

Eric started as a teacher, then became the vice principal and eventually the principal of large Maryland high school. At the time of his appointment, Eric was one of the youngest principals of a large high school in the country. Eric received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in African Studies from University of Maryland Baltimore County and his Masters in Science Degree from Johns Hopkins in Special Education. For the past eleven years, Eric has been the driving force behind Banner, and has designed, opened and overseen the operations of Banner’s dropout recovery, therapeutic, alternative education, and charter schools. Eric has received numerous awards including the University of Maryland Baltimore County Alumni of the Year, the Maryland Governor’s Citation for Excellence in Instructional Leadership, Maryland House of Delegates Citation for Dedication of Vision in Building a Stronger School and Community and, most recently, the 2013 Illinois AdvancED Educator of the Year Award. Eric presently serves a Lead Evaluator for many AdvancED accreditation teams and is active on the board of several community service organizations.

Flavian Prince – Vice President of Education

Flavian Prince is a highly qualified teacher under the No Child Left Behind Act and an Illinois Type 75 Certified Principal. Flavian received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Colorado. He also possesses a Masters in Educational Administration from Eastern Illinois University and is pursuing his Ed.D. in Educational Leadership. Flavian is a highly innovative and effective school reformer, having developed numerous curriculum and school reform products. These products include the BlendMyClass™ curriculum and learning management system and the Unlocked Student teacher training program. Flavian joined the Banner team in 2013. In his role as Vice President, Flavian oversees the curriculum and instruction of Banner’s programs.

Barry Cohen – Vice President of Administration

Barry Cohen has his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accountancy from Bentley College and his Juris Doctor from University of Maryland School of Law. After more than ten years practicing corporate law and litigation, Barry entered the school management field. Barry also handles school governance issues, from both legal and compliance perspectives. Barry has extensive experience in the business and administrative aspects of school operations, including budgeting, finance, legal, human resources, purchasing, real estate, and facilities management. Barry also handles school governance issues, both from legal, compliance and practical perspectives. Barry has been on the business and administrative side of school openings and operations for more than a decade, and has been instrumental in opening and operating many charter and contract schools.

Sidney Yeldell – Executive Director of Milwaukee Programs

Sid has been involved in education for nearly forty years. Sid served as the Executive Director of School Safety for New York City Public Schools and held a similar position for District of Columbia Public Schools. He has worked for Banner since its inception and has been involved in operating schools and developing new programs. Sid presently serves as the Executive Director of Banner’s Milwaukee programs.
